ARTIST STATEMENT

My abstract images, that I call Vigoresques, emerge from a flat surface and radiate outward, creating a sense of growth and vigor reaching toward the viewer. The three dimensional appearance of each piece engages the public to perceiving it from different angles as the impression of the work changes with every view point. The large scale enables the audience to feel entwined in the world of perplexing imagery that I leave open to interpretation.

Over the years I noticed that every person tries to find his own individual approach and the meaning of each Vigoresque, therefore I don’t want to set a limitation on what I personally intended it to be. Through the repetitive forms and patterns, my work in general is all about expansion, abundance and fertility with a subconscious sexual allusion since each piece has a distinctive female or male characteristics. I concentrate on the positive aspects of progress and exuberance in contrast to today’s dominating negative, decadent tendencies in art. Nowadays, life itself is a hard struggle on its own so I hope that my Vigoresques bring an optimistic touch to it.

By using a traditional technique, I deliberately chose to distinguish myself from the overpowering digital tendencies in the world and concentrate on the organic quality of the shapes I create. The time-consuming handmade repetitive process of transforming simple string into a work of art makes a statement in opposition to the fast and easy trends of the consumption world. It’s also an escape for me from my stressful advertising firm where everything has to be done on a very short deadline.

My intention for the Vigoresques is to intrigue the viewer, capture him and get him involved in an inner discussion that would leave a deep impact on him.
